Shoe designer Isa Tapia is not unlike a bird of paradise. To begin with she harks from a tropical island—Puerto Rico, to be exact—and brings that lively, colorful sensibility to everything she does. Second, her shoes, even the most practical pairs, are bedecked with all the fanciful details and eye-catching embellishments you’d expect from a bird who’s flown in from a warmer latitude. We caught up with this Seilenna muse about her favorite seaside destinations andmust-haves for a day at the beach.
You’re originally from Puerto Rico. What's your favorite beach there, and why?
I love Playa Aviones in Piñones, Puerto Rico. It's a beautiful, secluded beach where you can watch surfers and relax.
What are your packing essentials for a day at the beach?
I pack my Sisley Broad Spectrum Sunscreen, coconut water, a big hat and my Celine glasses. I also carry my latest book or a gossip magazine to read on my Hermès towel.
One piece or bikini?
Both. Depending on my mood.
What is your ideal summer sandal or pair of shoes?
My ideal summer shoe is the Charlie espadrille wedge from my S/S’15 collection.
What’s your favorite Seilenna swimsuit and why?
I LOVE the Delphine one-piece because it's sexy, flirty and versatile with its removable strap. Also, it’s part of the Isa collection which is named after me! **Isa collection - available soon!
What’s a sunny weather destination you’ve never been to but are dying to visit?
I've never been to Tulum, Mexico but am definitely planning to visit this year.
